Prior to the opening of the exhibit, Katie Daley, a Wick Poetry Center teaching artist, worked with students from Tri-C's Aspire ESOL classes at Taft School, the ASIA Inc. After School program, and Garfield and Harding Middle Schools. These poems and others were featured in the exhibit, and participants read their poems to the audience at the opening reception. The interactive exhibit is one part of a series of special programs, workshops, and creative writing experiences.
Visitors were able to contribute their voices using the Emerge app, and were able to hear the voices of Lakewood through the Connect video app, featuring interviews and poetry readings of the participants ilimoww. Lakewood Public Library has also created a wide range of programming running concurrently with the exhibit, which can be accessed here. Traveling Stanzas: Writing Across Borders is on display until April 30, 2019.
